1.  Check the temperature differences in US cities The temperature differences between urban and rural areas sound significant especially in megacities like Washington DC. 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? Unfortunately no technical and official source which presents such records in Tehran. But according to a report on a news website 5 major heat islands have been discovered in Tehran. These UHIs have developed in some of main urban centers of the city, the most polluted urban spaces; Enghelab Square, Haft-e-Tir square, Shoosh square, Azadi square and Gheytarieh district. Walkability, one of the best life changing qualities that a city can benefit from and Tehran seriously lacks, reduces dramatically during hot seasons as a result of UHI effect. Urban Civic centers become more like fire pits which people trying to escape from. Public transportation system is not a good choice because of inefficient cooling system. The society gets Ill-tempered. The only safe place to harbour you is your private car,more traffic everywhere. On holidays People end up tolerating traffic on the roads when they rush to rural areas like Lavasanat or Caspian Sea coast in order to ease their thermal discomfort. And energy and water supply use drastically increases. More pollution, less energy efficiency, thermal-related diseases, less urban outdoor life, are the obvious results of UHI effect. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? Make the city green in every aspect. Green spaces, Green public transportation, green energy systems, green local-climate-specific material Greenness should be brought to everyday urban life so people won't have to seek it outside the city. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? No way has this matter seemed to be considered in available policies. It's been only an academic concern and many theses have been done on the subject. But no practical action.
