Five most livable cities: Helsinki, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Seattle, Portland (Oregon). Five characteristics for livability: Nature, commerce, sustainability, calmness, education. Seattle in relation to above characteristics: Nature (abundant amounts of forests, mountains, and bodies of water are within an hour's drive of Seattle or within the city itself), commerce (Seattle's downtown is a tech hub, many opportunities for employment and industry leading companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Starbucks), sustainability (Seattle is focused on being a sustainable city, through transit, consumer, and government efforts), calmness (pace of Seattle is generally calm for a city, lots of nature help with this, though not as calm as a suburb would be), education (this picture is taken from within Seattle's University District right outside University of Washington's campus, Seattle has an above average education level, tech industry is continually a major hub, innovation is a big part of Seattle).
