The major issue of UHI is seen in the winter times when the air circulation and wind is very weak and the fog with the smoke from the chimneys builds up and covers the whole city. The effect of that is also seen in hot times making the air even hotter. A lot of urbanists say that the reason to this is Alipasino polje, a residential complex built outside the city. Huge buildings stop the air circulation and winds coming from the mountains surrounding the city. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/c1/1c/68/c11c68c15c277b13fab55dcb800bfa69.jpg Which are the measures you would propose? Part of the soulution to the problem would be to make more green spaces which would cool the city in the summer, make more shade. Green roofs are not a popular topic here and should definitely be considered and taken as a part of the solution. Also, planting more trees on the sidewalks which could make more shades would make the city more livable. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? The policies to reduce the effect of UHI are not a trending topic here. Most of the projects are not based on the principles of green architecture.
