Take pictures is part of my job as civil engineer, this moment is the local civil work undertaken by local people contribuiting with labor for the sewer system where international donors gave the money. The picture shows people working with local materials like wood, clay brics, sand and stones but also PVC pipes are made from imported materials (polyvinyl chloride). Local industry imports the principal components to produce PVC pipes as well as equipment with global technology. People living on remote or disperse areas and/or people from low socioeconomic status, have more access to sanitation (drinking water, solid and water waste systems) due to imported materials like PVC. New materials and improved technology allows production of pipes more afordable and easier to transport. Naranjito has access to bigger cities of Honduras but cost of sewer systems may be prohibited if pipes are made by cement and sand as was used before the use of PVC. Cement production also requires imported products and technology. Globalized economy allows construction with better and cheaper materials.
