At the Sankey Diagram it is very obvious that the main fossil fuel used in Cyprus are *oil products imp* with an impressive 2292ktoe out of 2427ktoe in total, which is almost 95%. The other 135ktoe (5%) are from other prod (3,20%), Bio/wate imp (1%), Bio/waste products (0,75%), Geoth prod(0,05%). **2. Main usage of the dominant fossil fuel** The dominant fossil fuels (oil products) used in Cyprus are mainly used in transportation. 68% (943ktoe) from the total final consumption comes from oil products of which 602 ktoe (63%) goes to transportation. In general, the biggest amount of energy is used in transportation(617ktoe) as opposed to the second category with 556ktoe of unspecified listed as 'other'. **3. New policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy** **Production imprvements** a. seaweed biofuel During winter there is a huge amount of seaweed washed off the shores of Cyprus, which could be used for the production of bio-fuel, or as biomass briquettes. ![enter image description here][1] http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/jul/01/seaweed-biofuel-alternative-energy-kelp-scotland b. Solar energy Photovoltaic ![enter image description here][2] Cyprus is shown to have 2401-2600 kWh/m2/y which is a very effective irradiation for photovoltaic panels. Photovoltaics may reduce their efficiency when exposed to very high temperatures and very strong irradiation; Therefore, Cyprus provides excellent conditions for photovoltaic panels to sustain their efficiency. **Final consumption improvements** a. improve public transportation: i. intercity train (simple infrastructure, 3 lines in total. 1 Line Pa-Lim-Nic, 1 line Lar-Lim, 1 line Lar-Nicosia). Commute and Cargo ii. Tram in the cities iii. Encourage carpooling iv. encourage electric cars (lower charges for license) At the picture below I have sketched the 3 proposed train lines. ![enter image description here][3] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14488907298278786.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1448890922948257.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14488912986359579.jpg
