![enter image description here][1] The photos attached are of Oslo centre and of its forest in the surroundings (Marka). Less of 10 km separates them. The first photo shows the urban area of Oslo along the Fjord. The urban fabric here is undergoing a process of transformation and densification (named the Fjord City, https://www.oslo.kommune.no/politikk-og-administrasjon/prosjekter/fjordbyen/). In these areas the UHI effect would be more present, but at the same time, the mitigation agency of the sea is strongly influencing the microclimate. The second photo shows the Maridal lake, just outside Oslo and source of drinking water for the city. It is surrounded by forests and trails and for sure the temperatures here are colder, maybe with the starkest difference during the winter, with snow remaining for much longer periods than in the city. **3.** I think I would follow the line of the current administration, for example keeping and expanding the rich range of green spaces in the city center to compensate for the densification the city. Moreover I think that another important measure would be to have a good percentage of green roofs in buildings in the center. **4.** The recent new Oslo administration has just announced an ambitious plan focusing a lot on green issues, for example the cut of CO2 emissions, a car-free city center by 2019, 60 km extension of the network of cycle paths to promote sustainable mobility, the preservation of the Blue-Green structure of the city with the intention of keeping the surrounding forests intact and densify the center for the future city-growth etc. Whereas there is no direct mention to UHI in the new policy I guess that a shift to a greener administration (the reduction of car-traffic and of 50% of gas –emissions by 2030, Passivhaus standards for new buildings, green areas) indirectly will benefit also the UHI issue.
