The center of Madrid has higher temperature, uncomfortable walking/living the city, more presence of dust due to the lower level of humidity, less shade that indicates a lack of comfortable areas and more sensation of dirty in the street. ![living in the surrounding area of a city][1] ![living in the center area of a city][2] Y wouldn't like to propose a general view of a city but a detail, a sensation of the difference way of living and perceive the city, depending to the surrounding conditions. Sometimes, to change things, we have to start from the details. It is really important the environment where we are living in because it could make the difference between a comfortable and healthy and a low quality of life. Which are the measures you would propose? The measures I'd propose to reduce the UHI effects are various: 1_reduce density 2_limitate height of buildings 3_increase green areas 4_ Organise construction and orient buildings depending to the climate conditions (wind, sun, rain, ...) 5_define materials, colours and textures in the constructions that absorb heat less as possible and imitate nature in it's reaction to climate conditions 6_ Increase technologies and procedures that reduce the use of machines, and consequent production of pollution and heat in normal life of the city. These actions have to work in all activities of the citizen (work, leasure, transportation, air conditioning, etc., ) Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? unfortunately in the area I am living in there is no policy concerning the UHI effect, there is no consciousness that modifying that effect would change our way of living, working besides our health and happiness level.
