-Miami: 17° hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. -Las vegas: 24° hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. It is the No.1 biggest difference between urban and rural temperatures. -Baltimore: 21° hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. -Sacramento: 16° hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? -Passira, one of the cities I live, fortunately does not suffer with effects of island heat because it is a small town. The difference of temperature registered is around 8 to 10°C hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. The photos bellow is from a rural area in Passira and the other from an urban area, they were taken by Hélder Santana. Which are the measures you would propose? -As the environment is already built, I would purpose a maximum altitude of the buildings for not creating island heat, planting more trees, encouraging people for using of bicycle and exercising, as well as encouraging them for walking more. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? -As my town does not have problem with UHI effect, there are no polices about it. Passira does not have any building with more than 4 floors, and it is considered a horizontal town.
