Photo taken by Karl Gibson This photo was taken from the top of the Space Needle, a large observation tower in Seattle, Washington, USA. Although the tower itself is not used for telecommunication services, such as the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, similar towers in the surrounding area are used as physical infrastructure for telecommunications, including: radio transmission, TV broadcasting and cellular service. The three red and white towers that can be seen in the distance serve this purpose. These towers are strategically placed to relay from one tower to another without obstructions, for accessible reception in the surrounding area, for any device relying on telecommunication technology. Similar equipment can be observed on buildings towering a city’s skyline. As more buildings are designed with built-in telecommunication systems, more access to such towers will be needed to relay information. The dependency of society on these services is apparent in all major cities today, where services such as TV, radio, cell phones and more, are heavily relied on on a daily basis, and will most probably increase significantly in the future.
