**How would you define livability?** In the most brief way, I would define livability in major cities as the city not getting in the way of your pursuits. As city centers grow, density has many positive changes as long as the city can maintain ease of access and a cleanly environment. **If you need to define livability with the following terms, how would you rank them? (1: most important - 7: least important)** 7) Engagement 6) Health 5) Environment 4) Neighborhood 3) Opportunity 2) Housing 1) Transportation **Choose three cities in the United States (preferable cities in different states) and go to the following webpage: https://livabilityindex.aarp.org. Search for the chosen cities at the livability index.** I want to do a west coast survey of livability, so I chose - Seattle, WA - Portland, OR - San Francisco, CA - Los Angeles, CA - San Diego, CA **Have a look at the livability scores. How high is the livability score of every city? Please note the scores of this question in a table like the one below. How much has the livability score of every city changed? Please note the scores of this question in a table like the one below.** ![West Coast Survey][1] **Can you explain the change in livability scores of your cities?** I have to say I’m a little surprised by some of these scores. Public transit is really important to me for reasons of sustainability, reduction of gridlock, equitable access and my ability to read a book while traveling. I think that the rating for transportation in urban centers might be a little skewed because many American cities and towns have poor public infrastructure and American standards for public transit are pretty low.
