This image shows a new condo being built in downtown Toronto. The waterproofing membrane is actually from a Canadian company and is not imported. However, the steel is most likely imported since Canada does import a lot of steel, including even pipe and rebar, mainly from Turkey. This constant import of construction materials can take a toll on the local economy and job force. These imported materials displace hundreds of steelworker jobs in Ontario. Many steel mills in Ontario can produce the same high-quality steel as the imported one, however, importing still seems to be a popular option.
