In this picture, we can see a sophisticated façade made of different components and materials. It's the façade of the PRBB (Parque de Investigación Biomédica de Barcelona) and it was designed to protect from the sun (brise soleil) and creating a suitable environment for the interior spaces. This wood façade system was designed using the Western Red Cedar wood, a kind of coniferous tree which is native to western North America, far from the Iberian Peninsula. This sort of timber is extensively used for outdoor construction worldwide due to its distinct appearance and its high natural resistance to decay. Because of the lack of such native species with the characteristics and qualities required, importing this kind of timber it's very usual in our country.
