The station is mainly made of concrete and steel and the roofing is steel frame with cladding. The UAE is a net importer of steel as well as cement therefore the majority of materials used in this construction were dependent on a heavily globalized economy. From another perspective, the construction workers in this project were also brought from other countries (non-local citizens), further emphasizing the ties with the globalized economy, if people can be seen as a resource (albeit not a material) in construction too. More on the imports of construction products by the UAE in 2008 can be seen here: http://gulfnews.com/business/sectors/construction/cement-imports-by-dubai-soar-74-in-2007-1.92875 Recently though, the dependence on imports has changed and the UAE has become an exporter of cement.
