The city has been several times fully destructed by terrible fires int he past centuries, mostly at agited times. Nowadays most constructions I see while exploring the city are from concrete, and marginally from steel and glass. But Russia needs to import cement, from Turkey, Belarus or China, which makes each of these new buildings the product of the global economy. (source : cement.com) Nevertheless, cement being a low value material we can see that its supply remains regional, from countries having a border with Russia. Recently a multinational company, Lafarge, opened a new cement factory in the area of Moscow. That will diminish the dependency of the city on foreign cement but shows how foreign investment is necessary in the process, once more showing the role of globalization.
