Hassan Fathy's Craft Center:- 1.**Hassan fathy**: Is one of Egypt's most valuable architects, And here's a little Info. concerning his life and career. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan_Fathy 2.**The center is specialized In** making pottery and coloring on ceramic plates which are crafts that has been known particularly in this area since the fifties or maybe even before that, This craft center however was built in 2001 ( A little research showed me this http://www.cairo.gov.eg/CairoPortal/Culture%20and%20Arts/text%20creativity%20center.aspx?ID=12) - **The Idea behind the building**: The building was built in a structure that imitates Hassan Fathy's Ideas for The new Gourna village; designed near Luxor, Egypt. The Idea was to make buildings for the poor, he wrote his famous book later (Architecture for the poor) explaining how he designed the village. HE wanted back then to design a village that can be built based on the materials found in the surrounding nature, rather than the modern materials of cement and steel. So he used mud bricks in building, and designed the houses to imitate the nature of citizens in this area having enclosed courtyards; to allow flow of wind to different sides of the house based on the fact that the building was in the desert. and made roofs of domes that matches the surrounding and probably had more important usage like creating shadows or decreasing amount of sun rays reflecting on the house causing it to be a little cooler because of the high temperature in the desert. **The picture however is not from the village in Luxor, but only an imitation of the idea made there by Hassan Fathy, and that is why it was named after him.**
