I am currently working in the construction of the Museum of Pachacamac, located besides one of the most important ruins in the city of Lima. This project, due to its importance nationwide, could have been an interesting example of how to use our own resources in contemporary architecture, eliminating the seismic danger. It is a very interesting project, but as most of the contemporary architecture, it is being built entirely in concrete. Peruvians are forgetting their vernacular architecture as well as the resources available locally. The main construction materials are now industrial bricks, concrete and metallic roofing, and this applies to cities in the coast, highlands and forests, disregarding the climatic and topographic differences. In Peru, building with earth, wood and bamboo (depending on the region) is now only viewed as an alternative for the poorest people in the country, who cannot afford “better” materials. ![ruins in the background][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14337390259282307.jpg
