The stone arch bridge in the foreground (apparently 21st in span in the world) was constructed completely from locally sourced stones in the 19th century. I find this entire area of our city a fascinating juxtaposition with the surrounding modern infrastructure of concrete bridges and lock & dam. The mill itself, was once a center of global flour distribution (the largest flour mill in the U.S. I believe when it blew up), is now a ruin being preserved by imported materials.
