Making the invisible - visible
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Visible information: mix of office and residential buildings, light traffic, a river, a major road system, our Jockey Club (green area on the left side), USP - University of Sao Paulo (green area on the right) Invisible information extracted from visible information: - Urban sprawl, lack of public transportation, no sidewalks: Sao Paulo has been growing haphazardly and uncontrollably without considering an urban plan of quality. In this case, the huge avenue in the photo (Av. Marginal Pinheiros) underwent through an enlargement work - due to the incredibly amount of traffic - in a way that, when finalised, couldn't handle its current traffic. Instead of investing in public transportation towards a more sustainable, more intelligent and "healthier" city, our government has been focusing in the mass use of private transportation - we have only one train line located in few parts along the river but does not supplies the city need for public transportation. Consequences: more congestions, higher fuel consumption, higher carbon emission, more money spent. - Unfriendly environment, no sewage treatment: The river (Rio Pinheiros) was diverted from its natural course and narrowed causing major floods in our city which directly contributes to non-secured situations and the degradation of our city. Furthermore, nothing was invested in a decent sewage treatment - only 15-20% of the volume of the river is actually water!!! The large amount of garbage impedes that our river, its edges, its sides, are used by the population in matters of sports, leisure, creating a non-friendly environment. The river is seen like a barrier instead of an enriching element for the city and its citizens. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14292015532250553.jpg
