FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

It shows an intersection of streets with Luzerns typical townhouses and a mansion to the left ( only its garden is visible). One can sense the great spatiality of the view, the observers' eyes can reach as far as towns fortification wall with very characteristic towers (Musegg Mauer). All this thanks to the awkward low belt of warehouses embracing the mansion Himmelrich's garden (to the left), which high tries (characteristic to the epoque cedar trees) give an impression of a public park. This great distances between the townhouses provide a great privacy to their inhabitants. Moreover, a street marked 'Zone 30' suggests a pedestrian-friendly area with the reduced car circulation. The street's intersection creates a semi-formal, partialy arranged by the architects whose office located in the warehouse faces this little triangular square (at the bottom of the photo). It is also visible that around this place some people have gathered - there are young boys from the district who drive around with their skateboards. The warehouses surounding the Himmelrich mansion garden are not only of industrial use, there is one kiosk with tables to sit outside, there are few more graphic design offices as well. A careful site observer would tell, that the intensity of the traffic on the main street ( the one that is perpendicular to the Zone30 street) reduces the usability and city dweller-friendliness of the little triangular square, which serves to local inhabitants as an interaction point. Many people stop there for a while, meet by chance their friends or neighbours (as the town itself is rather small). Also, a kiosk located at one corner of the place is quite frequently visited, and the tables outside serve as a short coffee-break point. The busy street is also an important commuting corridor for the cyclists. The increased bicycle traffic is especially noticed in the mornings and the evenings over the week, as people come to work and go back home. Revealing the invisible - the short meeting point of the districts' inhabitants and the cyclist commuting lane show the need of a small, well arranged public space as well as a great use of bicycles as a popular mean of transport. The two factors - the heavy traffic reduction as well as a maintenance of warehouses, their pssible transformation in cafees - a local meeting point could make the space much more livable to its inhabitants. ![picture taken in Lucere, Himmelrich Area - Switzerland][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14294679926701975.jpg
