FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2015-04-19 by AthaCh
1. Visible: A very crowded high street, a street that blends the past and the present in one road. The high street is the principle street in the city for more than 3 centuries, where all shops and services such as banks, restaurants, bars etc are located. It is one of the main touristic destinations in Canterbury, as it’s parallel to the Canterbury Cathedral (one of the oldest, over 1400 years old and most famous structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site). On high street one can identify various architectural building forms, varying from the 14th to 20th century buildings. As Canterbury is consistently one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United Kingdom, the high street is crowded on daily basis. 2. Invisible: There are couple of abandoned buildings and shops. Despite the street being a popular tourist destination, in the street there are a lot of offices. Therefore, other than ‘tourist’ and ‘shopping area’ for the both locals and tourists, high street is also a business street. 3. As the street is of upmost heritage importance, the council should renovate the abandoned shops and apartments. The cafés and restaurants should be allowed outdoor sitting. ![Canterbury city centre ][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14294662197162334.jpg
