People can and do use a multitude of transport modes to access the CBD and metro areas 2. The old and the new, co-existing and creating a visually beautiful and liveable space. The far left of the picture shows st pauls cathedral * "rebuilt in 1885, when it was demolished to make way for the present Cathedral. The decision to build on the site of the existing church was made because of its proximity to the railway and soon to be completed cable tramway service". A remnant of a time when the Victorian Gold rush made Melbourne one of the worlds richest cities. * source http://www.stpaulscathedral.org.au/cathedral/history and federation square on the right, connecting the CBD with the Yarra River and built as a showcase of modern sustainable architecture. It also sits atop aboriginal land of historical significance for first nation people. the old and the new, history and modernity, the struggle of humanity to evolve.
