People walking by a walking lane with some green area disposed to enjoy the walk and part of Down-Town buildings in the background. There is yet lots of information that remain invisible about the city: 1)Functions of the Old Port for the city. The old Port has been historically the basis of the growing economy not only for the city, but also for the Country. It played a pivotal role during the trade with England and the river was the main entrance to the whole continent. Today, the old port continues to be of major importance for the reasons mentioned above, as well as for the enjoyment of montrealers in order to relax walking, cycling or skating around the nature by the river. Dynamics: It is a very dynamic area. Specially during summer weekends. Many people gather to enjoy and have a good time here. Citizens: Since it is a place devoted for the enjoyment of citizens, it is opened for everyone, from tourist to office workers, students, musicians, artists, street vendors... everyone. No traffic is allowed in this area, which allows people to walk freeely and safe. Most montrealers enjoy a high standard of life which is meassured by the use this kinds of public spaces. It is directly connected to MontrealĀ“s downtown, where most of the Interactions take place in the city. All this invisible information can become knowledge by using technology to know more about the interactions that take place among the people who go to the Port. Crowdsourcing or using information directly derived by the citizens and their needs, their perception of the are and the inclusion of more advanced urban design to improve the livability of the city.
