FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2015-06-07 by AlyWes
STEP 1: Invisible information A: Notice the advertisement for suits? There must be a decent amount of suit-wearing office workers around here, if a store is targeting them. There are also public glass waste separation bins near the centre of the image. This indicates that there is also a good amount of residential population here, because offices and businesses have their own bins located on side streets or inside. B: On the left hand side there is an older building currently under refurbishment, and a war memorial to troops from the first world war. This indicates that this area of the city has some history and is relatively central to the city. On the left hand side, the buildings are ca. 1950s, indicating replacement of the original building stock due to planning decisions or (more likely) war damage. STEP 2: Contribution to planning on A: balancing the offerings and attractions of the area so that both office workers have good reasons to get outside during lunch or after work, and residents are encouraged to hang out outside (not just restaurants and bars, since people can also eat at home) will encourage mingling of the population and a vibrant space in general. It might also be worthwhile to investigate calming down traffic to create more space and attractiveness for public usage. ![Street crossing in Stuttgart, Germany][1] [1]: http://i.imgur.com/Iwaq8bv.jpg
