The was management containers are for organic waste (green) and recycleable materials (blue). Alternate weeks non-recyclable waste and garden waste ids collected. By the householder doing a preliminary sorting of waste, the city can determine which non-recyclable materials should be explored for recycling processes. Garden waste and leaves are composted by the city to create compost which is used in city parks and made available for household gardens. While maybe not the most environmentally correct process, organic waste is converted to gas for fuelling city vehicles. Through the use of smart electricty meters, consumption can be monitored at home. Currently the day is divided into three time periods with three charge rates. By shifting uses of electricity to off-peaks periods consumers can save money and the demand on the system more evenly spread out. Better usage practices and patterns can help in determining what expansion of the hydro grid is needed, whether that should be through water, gas fired, nuclear or wind powered installations. ![enter image description here][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14330203188741055.jpg
