FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2015-06-17 by Maya_kaz
Two pieces of invisible information that can be extracted are: a- dependence on car ownership in this area: % of employees commuting by public transport vs. % of employees commuting using personal cars, and b- density of people in this area, distinguishing between residents and commuters. Knowledge of employees using public transport vs. personal cars will give policymakers an idea of how to develop the public transport system in the city so as to reduce car dependence and congestion on the roads during rush hours. This is important because higher dependence on public transport means less car accidents on the roads (something very prevalent in Dubai), less stress on employees driving back and forth and it is definitely better for the environment, contributing to a more liveable city.
