This photo shows an example from the Netherlands, in the town Hoofddorp (a suburb near Amsterdam). 1. The visible information includes a hospital building (on the right background), a bus station (the ground level platform with the orange construction and digital bus sign, and on the right an upper level on the viaduct), a parking garage (left, spiraling), bicycles parked under the viaduct, a road to the hospital and parking garage, in the middle background an apartment building and a power line. 2. Two examples of invisible information. - The use of buses is paid by smart cards (OV-chipkaart). This results in information on the use of public transport. - The hospital has several types of invisible information, one example is patient data, number of patients, where they live, etc. 3. The data on trips being made in public transport leads to knowledge on travel patterns that can be used to improve the bus service: change bus routes to decrease tranfers, improve connecting services, fit the number of buses (frequency) to the expected number of passengers.
