1. This Picture was taken at my office, the 8th floor of the African Alliance building, Airport road, Kano, Kano state, Nigeria. Kano is the commercial nerve center of northern Nigeria; it is home to over two million inhabitants. Despite Government efforts at sanitizing the built environment in the metropolis, haphazard developments like what we have in the picture still exists. 2. The first invisible information this picture relates is the average Kano resident’s disregard for state laws. The law clearly states that a minimum distance of three meters should be allowed between two buildings within the same compound. This obviously is not the case in this compound. The second is the people’s reaction to the inconveniences they have created for themselves with their disregard for the rule of law. Quarrels constantly arise due to the difficulty of navigating very narrow roads, which have developed as a result of disregard for planning laws. 3. The Urban Development board in Kano has in the recent past actually resorted to demolishing buildings that violates state codes as a direct response to the residents’ disregard for rules and regulations. The invincible information lies in the attitude of Kano residents to rules and regulations. This has to be constantly considered as a factor that contribute to the planning of a more livable urban space. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14299564287542887.png [2]: http://
