The stock and flows Means of transport – 1 bicycles, 2. Trams 3. Natural resources in the region – namely coal Metropolitan area of Silesia with Katowice as its central point serves 1.2 m passengers travels daily, the system needs to be improved and adjusted to current challenges – i.e. new settlements, new offices, close down of existing factories etc. The tram system used to be very poor, however after many years and due to various institution and owners problems trams stock is renovated. To generate the flow also the gauges needs to be replaced. To enable more passengers on the trams new lines have to established and constructed – especially where new settlements have been recently built. The bicycles – especially the system of public bike to rent may change the passengers/inhabitants travel on short distances. The growing popularity and relatively low cost (sometimes free), fancy for fitness at least at the moment may change the mean of transport on short distance. Bicycles are influencing the city center by changing the street – new bike passes are built. This causes more problems for ‘regular traffic’ Cars are moving slower, public transportation is priority. As Polish economy and energy is still heavily depended on the coal based energy sources the coal is transported to different points of Poland. Due to political decision the coal is becoming less important and the new sources should appear, this will change the routes where and how coal is transported within Poland. Probably the transportation will become more significant part of the price of the coal. That will reduce the number of track and lorries causing heavy traffic and by-passes.
