Jamshedpur is home to the Tata Iron and Steel Company which has more than 26500 employees in the plant itself, and more in other sectors. The company is ever-expanding, so more employment opportunities (ii)RAW MATERIALS for the industry, mainly COAL & IRON ORE. Tata Steel has coal mines located within 200km from Jamshedpur. The iron ore units are mainly located in the same state, and one in a neighbouring state. To meet its business excellence objectives, the Company’s collieries are constantly endeavoring to improve mine productivity, reduce ash content, improve washer yield and make the operation safe and environment friendly. (iii)The city is flanked by two RIVERS, which are the sources of water supply. Although not polluted to extremely hazardous levels, the rivers could be cleaned and maintained for a better environment, to reduce load on supply plants, etc.
