A) Land: This is a stock that can not be increased over time in this locality as it is static and mapped out B) Buildings: The buildings in the past were constructed on 4000-5000 square meters of land to give room for landscaping but presently most of the buildings are being demolished to accommodate blocks of flats or terrace houses C) Capital: There is a very high inflow of capital being utilized for the development D) Density/People: My locality is experiencing an influx of people due to the newer developments springing up E) Materials: There is an inflow of building materials into my locality for utilization in the construction projects F) Infrastructure: The infrastructure such as road and electricity would be regarded as stock as they are very static without any form of improvement to accommodate the new development G) Water: The water is pumped through individual boreholes dug in each property from the underground water channel and represents stock 2) Basically my locality was and still is a very expensive high brow area designed to accommodate top Government officials which earned it its name Government Reserved Area (GRA). Most of the houses were constructed on 4000-5000sqm of land thereby giving room for proper landscaping and green areas (gardens). ![Front of my building][1] ![Back of the building/gardens][2] 90% of the houses a couple of years back were just like the pictures above. But with the population growth and a dire need for accommodation, most of the houses are being demolished and redeveloped or sold to developers to accommodate blocks of flat, hotels or terrace houses. Thereby turning this very lovely serene environment into a construction jungle with little or no landscaping accommodated. See pictures of new developments below presently taking over 70% of the locality ![Hotel Development][3] ![Terrace Houses][4] ![Block of flats under development][5] There is a lot of capital being expended, either in the purchase of the land or in the redevelopment projects thereby creating an inflow of capital. This capital also flows out when these properties are either sold or leased out. The new development pattern and style has in turn resulted in an influx of people creating a certain population density as well as increased density and size of buildings. The unfortunate part of this is that while all these developments are going on at a very rapid rate, there is no corresponding increase in the infrastructure such as roads and electricity thereby giving rise to very bad roads caused by the heavy traffic; and very poor and erratic power supply as the existing power supply infrastructure were not designed to cater to the volume of houses being constructed. The only good thing is that the water is independently sourced from the underground water channel which may eventually become a problem especially during the dry season where the water level drops and with the increasing demand for the water, there is a likelihood that the stock of water may soon become non existent and we have to look at ways to bring in water. 3) While we are expanding the buildings to accommodate more people there is need to create more awareness and enlightenment on the need to leave as many green areas as possible to safeguard the environment. The developers and eventual owners should look at planting trees and landscaping there compounds as much as they can to create a balance in the environment and help minimise our carbon footprint. If we should lose the trees then we have lower rainfall and less water available underground which would become a disaster and must be prevented from now. While the whole area is looking quite modern there are no provisions made for parks and recreational activities as these are becoming impossible to enjoy in the new developments that practically utilize the entire land area, hence the need to apportion areas for parks. The roads should be expanded to accommodate sidewalks for people jogging, walking etc. The area should have independent power plants and people should look at building green houses that would leave less carbon foot print since the green areas are diminishing very fast. There is a need to look at other sources of water and start planning processes on how it can be supplied to my locality for the future eventuality of water shortage.
