The three most important stocks and flows I identified in my city are vehicles, urban settlements and population. **Vehicles (flows)**: A massive presence of automobiles in Guayaquil (Stocks) due to a lacking of an effective urban management and integrated policies, are the roots for vehicular congestion (speeds under 10 km/h in the central core, deterioration of the public space, air, and noise pollution among the principal effects. **Urban settlements (stocks):** The current ongoing land use planning is fostering urban expansion towards the north (route to Daule) and to the west (route to the coast), thus, requiring more trips in motorized transport (Flows) due to the spatial structure, more consumption of rural land (stocks), and natural resources. **Population:** Makes up the birth rate, rural migrants. Due to Guayaquil is the economic capital of Ecuador, migration from specially other provinces’ rural areas are mainly affecting the urbanization speed and the environment of the city, as squatters are settling in Monte Sinai, a sector located in the north-western city, lacking of urban services and infrastructure; whose economic, social and environmental burdens are bearing for the formal city. Moreover, floating population from Guayaquil metropolitan area (Duran, Samborondon, Daule and Milagro), being flows, constitutes an important segment impacting in the city. The above-mentioned stocks and flows can be seen as an opportunity to reduce the unsustainability levels of the city, by designing an integrated land-use and transport planning strategy, in which, the future-population-housing needs can be met by recycling the city, south and south-western to beging with, This strategy will reduce the long commutes to the main centrality in motorized displacements, increase the economic benefits due to the density increment and social quality.
