![Wageningen University Campus 2, The Netherlands][2] Stocks and Flows While traditional stocks and flows such as people, agricultural elements and building materials are logical examples, a slightly different approach is taken here. Knowledge During the morning rush hour traffic, a flow of bicycles and cars forms itself towards the Nothern part of Wageningen. With 6500 employees and 10000 students (Wageningen University, 2015), this flow of ''knowledge'' is significant. Here, the university can be seen as a ``stock'' of knowledge, transferring it to people who ``flow'' back to their respective living areas outside of the city. The flow characteristics are quite constant over time, but observed for a single day, the spatial knowledge transfer is quite substantial. Soil The river Rhine is supplying sediments from erosion in the upper part of the basin, this flow becomes the stock on which agricultural activities can be ``built'' (Asselman et al., 2003). While sediment transport and soil erosion happens all around the world, the Wageningen area is famous for its diversity in soils, where the clay soils in the Rhine area have different properties compared to other soil layers North of Wageningen. Animal fodder A more practical example is the stock and flow of a single livestock food company in the Wageningen region. The stock arrives with ships from the river and are transported in a finer distribution with trucks. References Asselman, N. E., Middelkoop, H., & Van Dijk, P. M. (2003).
