Visible information in this picture include: • Traffic stopped at a street light • Commercial properties for various businesses • Minute spaces in-between buildings • The absence of greenery and soft landscaping Vehicular Pollution Rates Rent Rates Informal Trading Patterns (Street Hawking) Energy consumption rates RENT RATES The amount of money paid on rent for a business is vital in determining the location and profit of the business. This is the central business district of Lagos Mainland and rent here is very high. Many of the shops were former residential buildings which have been converted to shops and fast food restaurants due to the proximity to a major arterial road bringing in traffic from other parts of the state to its administrative capital. Buses ply this route continuously and noise from vehicles, horns and generators are endless. A proper planning of the business area would likely create more space for commercial buildings along major routes and thereby prevent conversion of residential buildings into places for commerce.
