![Construction in Amsterdam Science Park][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14181242272142359.jpg This is a picture of a construction site in Amsterdam Science Park. It's close to where I live and they're constructing a flat. I can't say much about the precise construction materials since that's not really up my alley, but I can say that the actual building that is going to be erected will house internationals/expats most probably, making it already part of our globalizing world. Now, in terms of the actual construction, most materials will probably not come from the Netherlands since the Netherlands is not very rich in crude resources. A resource such as wood will have to come from Indonesia or Brazil, and precious metals will have to come from China for example. It is therefore necessary for companies in the Netherlands to import raw materials for construction. Construction can hardly be a localised activity in the Netherlands for we are dependent on trade with other countries. The Netherlands is a country at the heart of the globalizing economy due its strategic position in international trade. In recent years, many office buildings have been constructed in the Netherlands. Demand for office space has, however, not risen that much due to the economic crisis. As a result, many office spaces and buildings have been empty and untaken. Some office buildings near cities have been transformed into student housing, making the buildings useful again. I think that the construction business will need to resettle somewhat in order to stabilize, certainly with respect to the economic crisis that has hampered the demand.
