This picture is about one of the last marks of localized activity left in the heart of the city of Athens. The block of buildings shown at the right is called “Prosfigika” [Residences for the refugees] and was founded by the greek government in the early 30’s in order to house the 1.5 million refugees coming from the Asia Minor. The whole block (8 buildings) is built in stone extracted from the Athenean landscape and handcrafted by local builders. It is a unique example of total involvement in terms of place and people in its realization. Looking through the lens of today we may say that even here we can identify components of globalized economy. Having a second and more thorough look at the building we can identify upon it air-conditioning units, plastic tents, antennas etc etc. These components can also be seen upon the background buildings of the picture stressing out their “globalized” characteristics. ][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14162241364216369.jpg
