While this is consistent with adobe and ceramic construction that this region supported before statehood, it is not well reflective of the available materials in Santa Barbara today. The "revival" part of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture means that just about every structure is wood framed. Most of the wood comes from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The red tiles are typically manufactured in China and shipped across the Pacific for sale. Santa Barbara is an interesting case, because its architecture reflects a history of a localized economy, but the construction itself is dependent upon global markets for materials.
