That said, I've been very surprised to find an building made by the celebs Mies Van Der Rohe architect, know around the world for his modern architecture. This building is built in the Westmont Square and is made of smoked windows and anodized aluminium. Two materials that are built locally. You might say this isn't a innovative design or technique used in Montreal nowadays, in 2014. But, what if I tell you that this building have been built in 1964-67? Below is an image of the building: ![Westmont Square, Montreal][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14157747497708898.jpg As you can see, this modern architecture passed through many decades and I'd have never know this has been built in 60's. I'd say that using these kind of material was, in 60's year, very innovative and new for Montreal, especially the mixes of the two materials. Therefore, Mies Van Der Rohe is well known as the precursor of this kind of architecture around the world and brought to Montreal the new techniques to develop actually this kind of architecture. Thus, he also brought his philosophy about the material, spiritual and functional architecture. Remember "God is in the details", and Van Der Rohe well understood how an architecture can go through many decades without being outdated.
