After the Rotterdam Blitz on 1940, the city was completely destroyed and the typical Dutch cannals were filled with all the debris. The city decided to look ahead and nowadays it´s considered the "Hollywood" of the Architecture (reference to "An Architect´s Guide to Fame"). Lots of famous architectural offices are place in Rotterdam and the city might be considered like a huge laboratory, where the most "original" shapes and new construction materials are used... A good examples are the new martkhallen from MVRDV, De rotterdam from OMA or the Erasmusbrug from UNStudio (on the picture). With all these, Rotterdam has become one of the most globalized cities in Europe and probably the most singular city in the Netherlands, being completely different from the rest of Dutch cities, well known for their typical low houses, canals and brick materials for contruction.
