This is a picture of a library in my hometown (France). The facade is made with CorianĀ© sheets, a building material only made by a US company (Dupont) in 3 production units in the US, Japan and Korea. It was created by this company in 1967 and they are the only ones to possess the know-how (mix of acrylic and aluminium). This is a long lasting material, non porous, easy to wash and repair. It was quite difficult to find buildings in my hometown that are building with non-french materials as we are very big on cement (Lafarge company) and wood, and our new buildings incorporate more and more of local materials as we are coming back to a circular type economy. However I found this building which facade is made with non-local material. I guess because of the very particular properties of this material the architects could not find a matching material in the local market and had to resort to this one ! In relation to the sentence, yes components come a lot from different countries, but in the developed countries, we are coming back from this thinking and trying to relocalise our construction process.
