The photograph depicts a library building of an upcoming private university near New Delhi, India. Building construction activities in India involved using locally available materials till 1990. Globalization from 1991 has impacted the country in almost every sphere of life. Companies and organisations from all over the world started offering services and products contributing to improvement of quality of life of people of India who were, at the same time, aspiring to be alongside with the best in the world. Building construction industry is no different as it has also started adopting global construction mechanisms and materials. The new structures that are coming up in every nook and corner of India are now designed and constructed with a view to be on par with the buildings of the developed world. This would only be possible if the best of the materials are used. Wherever necessary, no effort is being spared to use materials from across the world. The building in the picture is an example as it has consumed many global products and materials. The glass work (China), air conditioners (Korea), flooring marble (Italy), sanitary fittings (UK), electrical installations (USA) and a host of many support elements are drawn from the companies that are based in different countries around the world. It may be concluded that what was once an activity that was dependent on locally available resources has now become a globalized activity with the advancement of technology, shrinking global village, increased levels of economy and other factors.
