![enter image description here][2] These are pictures I took at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The construction of this building and its entire plaza was a huge multi-national undertaking that brought together designers, features, materials, and suppliers from nearly every corner of the globe such as: Italy, Greece, Germany, China, Morocco, Iran, New Zealand, India, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. The Grand Mosque features 28 different types of marble including: Sivec - A white marble from Prilep, Macedonia used on the external cladding and the minarets. Lasa - A white marble from South Tyrol in Italy was used in the internal elevations. Makrana - A type of marble from Makrana, India was used in the annexes and offices. Aquabiana and Biano - A type of marble from Italy. East White and Ming Green - A type of marble from China. There are a total of 82 domes of Moroccan design. The complex has just over 1,000 columns with more than 20,000 marble panels inlaid with semi-precious stones, including: lapis lazuli, red agate, amethyst, abalone shell, and mother of pearl. There are gold-coloured chandeliers from Germany that feature thousands of crystals from Austria and some glass-work from Italy. The interior of the mosque features the world's largest hand-knotted carpet designed by an Iranian artist and hand-crafted by artisans in small villages near Mashhadin, Iran.
