The photo is taken in the small city of Barjols, Provence, south of France (known for its Mediterranean local stone), at the boarder of the medieval city with the new modernist/contemporary interventions. It can be seen that the photo is composed of two halves: on the left side it can be seen the old manner of building (subtractive construction), using the local material – stone, in order to erect the buildings and, in this case, also the protective wall (which stands even today). On the right side it can be seen the lifted modernist/contemporary intervention, which forms the passage and also completes the front on the right side, standing as evidence of the industrialized process of building, using industrialized materials (concrete structure with brick or AAC masonry), testimony of the additive manner of construction. Therefore, it can be noticed the contrast between the two manners of building, between the two materials, which is proof for what it can be found in the south of France and not only : local material – stone, well known and used since ancient periods, not being exploited in the favor of modernist, industrialized materials and interventions, as evidence of the period of industrialization, transformed today into globalization.
