This park is located in the city of Alajuela, Costa Rica, where the heat can reach 35ÂșC in the summer. In past days, the park was covered by trees, since it could invited people to visit the place and be away from the hot weather, enjoying the company of other citizens. However, after an urbanization program placed in various cities of the central valley of Costa Rica, a serious of parks where intervened with cement blocks, replacing the existing green areas. On one hand, could this be an example of the lecture given in this module, where foreign materials are introduced at a very high economic and ecological cost. However, the social and cultural cost should be measured as well, since the intervention blocked the local citizens from the opportunity to enjoy this place ever again as a site of encounter and relaxing. Taking in consideration the climate of the city, the elimination of the trees and the introduction of a material that arises the temperature in certain hours of the day, completely drives away those who want to rest from the heat.
