Turin is a city where most of its Baroque Architecture mostly built from 17th century as it became the capital of the State of Savoy many great Palaces and Churches as seen today are built from many stones and marbles were imported from different cities around Italy. For the Basilica of Superga great amount of materials (stones, bricks, marbles, woods) came from different places, the most broken marble quarries were those of Frabosa, Gassino, Rossasco and Foreste, while onyx was extracted from the cave of Busca-Dronero. Superga is located in the place called “Sassi” (“Stones”). In Mid 1717, at the end of the excavations, the first stone was laid. The largest part of the marble blocks were drafted and sometimes carved in the same place where they got extracted, and then moved to Superga. Sand was excavated at the confluence of river Po and torrent Stura about Lanzo and lime and bricks were made on the hill. **The Church** The church as seen in the picture has eight-columned marble pronaos which leads to the inside and marble floor. Its dome is divided into two parts: first part consist of eight grey marble fluted columns, while the second part consist of dark wood banister and of the tambour, in which eight large windows are partitioned by eight cabled columns made up of marble from Gassino and eight other ones made up of marble from Brossasco. Below the dome there is Frabosa dark marble banister. **The Royal Tomb** The crypt is reached through a marble grand stair and a large corridor. The semicircular space at the end of the grand stair is embellished by a Carrara marble sculpture, which King Vittorio Emanuele II had placed in 1878. ![enter image description here][2] ![enter image description here][3] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14181519029884806.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14181514512369103.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14181514974124757.jpg
