This photograph was taken in the neighborhood of Earlwood, which is very close to the heart of the city of Columbia, SC. The picture depicts a house yet to be completed, surrounded by other houses and trees. These houses are built inside the city. The houses are also built very close together, to conserve land for other houses. This helps to conserve money and wasted energy, because clearing another lot of land results in a large output of carbon dioxide, and when houses are built inside the city, it reduces emissions by decreasing the distance to the workplace that you travel to in your carbon dioxide emitting car. The house wrap on the side of the building covering the wood has "Stock Building Supply" written on it. Stock Supply focuses on sustainable forestry projects, and participates in building houses according to the NAHB National Green Building Standardâ„¢. This house is an example of one that should be built in the future,i.e., one that is built with sustainable materials, one that doesn't use a large plot of land, and one that is built inside the city.
