Until 1989 the Bulgaria was a socialist country, and building, as well as everything else was subordinated to this idea. That is why most of the buildings from this period are pre-fabricated construction (particularly the residential buildings). Construction today is a completely different story. Along with the unsuccessful attempts, there are many examples of modern, green buildings that follow the trends in building worldwide. The buildings I take for example are the Sopharma business towers. They are based on the so called double skin concept that originates from Germany and provides lower artificial light costs, and also filters sunlight to keep heat out in summer and keep it in during the colder months. The roof of the building works in a similar way. The materials used are: glass; concrete and fittings. The concrete used is mainly local.
