This city cannot be taken by the government, it has noc actual control over what is happening and how people change their city. This picture taken from the famous Galata Bridge shows the Istanbul assemblage of city elements in a realistic way. There are the obvious information such as the dilapidated houses and the unconsistency of architectural style. Everything seems random within the built environment in this picture. There is a market a the waterfront (a waterfront that not has been taken care of, there is no design implemented). The market offers fresh sea food and other convenience goods. It seems to be rather well organized. One starts wondering if the market is official and who owns the land. What is the official land use etx. Another thing that is obvious are the cars, one of them parked in such a manner that it blocks 2 other cars. Is that a reference to Turkish metality? It is hard to make out the access points or the urban grid. Behind the market is a small shopping street with shops selling mainly fishing equipment. There is evidence that Istanbul has grown without planning for a long time. The question I have is if people from Istanbul like it that way or would like the government to take better care of the citizens?
