FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Uploaded on 2014-10-19 by fluffykinz

This is a picture of the second main street in the suburb where I live on the outskirts of London. 1) The first set of invisible information which could be extracted from this photo could be about parking within the area, whether there is a shortage (which as all these spaces are filled but all the surrounding shops are closed would indicate there is an shortage elsewhere), where all these people are, and whether there is a lack of public transport in the area that would require car travel as an alternative. 2) The second piece of invisible information could be about crime and antisocial behavior. Five of the shops within the image have heavy shutters, one of which also carries graffiti. This isn't a poor area, but is a road that contains many late night takeaway shops which attracts those that have been drinking in the local pubs. For using this information to make the area a more livable urban space, the crime element should be studied more to ensure that the area didn't deteriorate further. Investigation into whether improvements in street lighting or a more visible police presence could also improve the situation and make the area more liveable.
