On my opinion, the most important of those two is the public information system that allows everybody in the city that need to evaluate easily the time it will take to go from point A to point B. Indeed, every bus, tramway, metro or train is identify in the system and it delivers very reliable time of transport between point A and B and information about the next train, bus, metro or tramway is delivered at each of the stop. I live in Paris till 25 years, and the system has been available in every transportation mode for 5/7 years only. The improvement of the quality of life it has generated is so important that we do not suspect its full effectiveness. We know with a good amount of exactitude time we need to go somewhere when we use public transportation system, and that is not true with car even with the traffic system include in smartphones application. By the way, all of this technology is of course accessible also on our smartphones.
