When completed it will cover 35 acres and is being touted as "Toronto's first 21st century community". It will use an international sports venue (Pan AM Games athlete village) and turn it into a sustainable, new-age urban planning and transit destination. The second consist of the streetcar tracks visible in the foreground. This is an extension of our busiest and longest streetcar line in the city, (over 40 kms) and extends from a midpoint in the center of the city. It will allow for a study of how an essentially new city (the area will be home to 50,000 new residents where there were none before) utilizes rapid public transit as opposed to driving, biking or walking. The new district is a 30-45 minute walk or a 10-15 minute bike ride from our downtown core. With our cities extensive car sharing services (Zipcar, Autoshare, and Car2Go) as well as our BixiBike free bike sharing service provided by the city, how many resdients will opt to not own a car anymore?
